Sanxi Tang - Starry Skies Series - Orion Constellation Starry Sky Dagger
Every winter, we create works inspired by the Orion Constellation, and this particular piece was also started in the winter and recently completed. The Orion Nebula is one of the closest star-forming regions to us, with a brightness that ranks second only to the Carina Nebula captured by the James Webb Space Telescope. On a clear night, it can be observed with the naked eye, and it is one of my favorite nebulae. The shape of the Orion Nebula resembles a red bird spreading its wings, earning it the nickname "Vermilion Bird," which holds symbolic significance for Chinese people. It is also a cradle of newborn stars, full of vitality.
This dagger is crafted from hand-forged starry Damascus steel, featuring a unique pattern created by inserting steel balls into a steel casing and then folding and forging the mixture. The blade design has been improved, based on an elongated and enlarged version of an ancient arrowhead. The red tip of the blade complements the "Vermilion Bird" theme, while the blue starry sky pattern at the rear end gives the impression of a red bird soaring freely in the vast universe, embodying a boundless and unstoppable vitality.
The guard is made from Damascus steel forged by us, featuring a small wing design that perfectly matches the overall aesthetics of the dagger. The handle is crafted from jade-like mammoth ivory imported from Siberia, combined with the classic European spiral silver wire design. Master Xi, with 21 years of experience in creating high-end works, has a keen eye for overall shape, proportion, and line control, which I deeply admire. A good piece is not a patchwork of different elements but a harmonious fusion of a whole.
A handmade crocodile leather sheath is included with this dagger, making it an excellent choice for personal collection or as a thoughtful gift to a friend!
